FIND THE FAULT. FIX THE CAUSE.

Electrical Fault Finding & Repairs

Electrical fault finding for homes and businesses across Dorset — from nuisance tripping and loss of power to intermittent faults and damaged electrical accessories.

Finding the cause — not just treating the symptom

Electrical faults can be frustrating, particularly when a circuit trips without an obvious reason, power disappears from part of a property or a problem only happens occasionally. Effective fault finding is about testing methodically, narrowing down the possibilities and identifying the underlying cause before deciding what needs to be repaired.

I'm Lee Ward, an independent electrician with more than 30 years' electrical industry experience. You'll deal directly with me throughout the investigation, and I'll explain what I find and the sensible options for putting it right.

Electrical problems I can investigate

01

RCD & RCBO tripping

Investigating circuits or equipment causing an RCD or RCBO to trip, including faults that appear intermittently.

02

Loss of power

Tracing faults where sockets, lighting or other parts of an installation have unexpectedly stopped working.

03

Intermittent faults

Methodical investigation of electrical problems that come and go or are difficult to reproduce.

04

Damaged accessories

Assessment and repair of faulty or damaged sockets, switches, connection points and other electrical accessories.

05

Lighting faults

Diagnosing lighting circuits and controls that are not operating correctly, including recurring or unexplained problems.

06

Wiring & circuit faults

Electrical testing to help locate wiring defects, insulation problems and other circuit faults before repair work is considered.

A methodical approach to diagnosis

Guessing and repeatedly replacing parts can waste time and money. Where a fault isn't immediately obvious, I use appropriate electrical testing and a logical process to narrow down the affected circuit, equipment or section of wiring.

Once the likely cause has been identified, I'll explain what I've found. Where practical, the repair can then be carried out; if further work is required, I'll discuss that with you before proceeding.

Faults in homes and businesses

Fault finding is available for both residential and commercial electrical installations. Whether the problem affects a single accessory, one circuit or a wider part of the installation, the priority is to establish what is happening and determine an appropriate way forward.

If the problem relates to an older or unsuitable consumer unit, see consumer unit and fuse box upgrades. For a wider assessment of an installation's condition, see EICRs and electrical inspection & testing. If you need new circuits or alterations rather than a repair, see residential and commercial electrical installations.
