Lighting & LED Design / Installation
Professional lighting design, LED upgrades and installation for homes and businesses across Dorset — from a single replacement fitting to a complete lighting scheme.
Good lighting is about more than simply fitting lights
The right lighting can completely change how a room, workspace or property feels and functions. Position, colour temperature, brightness, beam angle, switching and control all matter — as does choosing fittings that are suitable for the environment in which they will be installed.
I'm Lee Ward, an independent electrician with more than 30 years' electrical industry experience. I can help with the practical electrical side of a lighting project as well as the choices that determine how the finished lighting actually looks and performs.
Lighting work for homes & businesses
LED upgrades
Upgrade older or inefficient lighting to modern LED solutions, with attention to light output, colour temperature, compatibility and the existing installation.
Downlights & ceiling lighting
New and replacement downlights, ceiling fittings and recessed lighting, carefully positioned and with suitable fittings selected for the location and ceiling construction.
Feature & accent lighting
Lighting for kitchens, living spaces, displays, architectural features and other areas where the quality and placement of light are part of the finished appearance.
Task & practical lighting
Effective lighting for worktops, utility spaces, workshops, offices and commercial areas where good visibility and practical performance are priorities.
Dimming & controls
Switching, dimming and suitable lighting-control options, with compatibility considered so the controls, drivers and LED fittings work together correctly.
Replacement fittings
Replacement of dated, damaged or unsuitable light fittings, including advice where an existing fitting, driver or control arrangement needs more than a straightforward swap.
Lighting design that starts with how you use the space
I don't believe every room needs the same grid of downlights. A good lighting scheme should consider what the space is used for, where light is actually needed and the atmosphere you want to create. Sometimes that means combining general, task and feature lighting rather than relying on one type of fitting.
For larger alterations or refurbishments, lighting can be considered alongside new circuits, socket positions and other electrical installation work so that the electrical design works as a whole.
Choosing LED lighting properly
LED lighting can provide excellent efficiency, long service life and design flexibility, but the cheapest lamp or fitting is not necessarily the best choice. Quality, colour rendering, colour temperature, driver compatibility, dimming performance and suitability for the installation all affect the result.
Where recessed downlights are involved, the fitting also needs to be appropriate for its location and surrounding materials. I select and install equipment with the manufacturer's requirements and electrical safety considerations in mind rather than treating every LED product as interchangeable.
Homes, offices, shops & commercial premises
Lighting work is available for both residential and commercial customers. That may be a few carefully chosen fittings in a home, an LED upgrade to improve an existing installation, or practical lighting improvements to a workplace or commercial area.
If existing lighting is flickering, intermittently failing or causing protective devices to operate, the right starting point may be electrical fault finding before replacement fittings are specified.
What about garden & exterior lighting?
I also design and install external lighting, but I've kept this as a dedicated service because outdoor electrical work has its own design and environmental considerations. See Outdoor & Garden Electrics for garden lighting, exterior power and related work.
